Here Are the Best adidas Sneakers of 2018 (So Far)
We’re still quite fresh into the year, but it’s never too early to take a closer look at the best adidas sneakers of 2018 so far, so you can remain updated 365 days of the year.
Although this year still has a number of big drops in-store from all of the footwear brands we cover here on Highsnobiety, we’ve included a handful of adidas sneakers below that could take the title of “Sneaker of the Year” in our end-of-year Highsnobiety Crowns, which will be rolled out later in December.
While we will keep this list updated with the best sneakers of 2017, here is a selection of the best drops of the year (so far).
BVG x adidas Originals EQT 93/17
German transit company Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG) teamed up with adidas for a very special EQT 93/17 that doubles as a train ticket. Decorated with the Flecktarn-inspired camouflage pattern found throughout Berlin’s U-Bahn train network, the EQT also featured a Jahreskarte (yearly train ticket) on the tongue, which is quite a clever design detail, if you ask us. While the sneaker’s price-tag was around $215 USD, the cost of a yearly ticket in Berlin is substantially more, at around $950 USD.
adidas Originals Yung 1
Initially mistaken for a new YEEZY design when West himself was spotted wearing a pair, the Yung 1 takes design cues from late ’90s adidas runners and re-positions them for the contemporary sneakerhead. The shoe’s upper features aggressive cuts and undulating panels, saddled atop a decoupled sole unit. The Yung 1 is set to be included in a forthcoming adidas x Dragon Ball Z collaboration later in the year.
Y-3 Runner 4D
Y-3’s Runner 4D sneakers were first shown at Paris Fashion Week, showing Y-3’s first-ever use of 4D technology in a non-performance context, alongside a Primeknit upper. Created in collaboration with American firm Carbon, the sole unit was constructed with Digital Light Synthesis, which uses digital light projection, oxygen-permeable optics, and programmable liquid resins to generate high performance, durable polymeric products.
Undefeated x adidas Ultra Boost
The Ultra Boost from adidas Running has taken several big strides forward in its time, including the first-ever Uncaged version and the first-ever to feature a colored Boost sole. Now Undefeated ushers in another first for the silhouette, adding a graphic treatment to the shoe’s upper. Undefeated’s sneaker collaborations always go above and beyond the status quo, and this release was no different. The pack also included a white colorway of the same design, exclusive to Hong Kong-based retailer Double-Park.
KITH x adidas Terrex “EEA”
KITH worked with adidas to re-work the Terrex Agravic, an advanced trail running performance sneaker. Clever KITH branding is added to the upper, while the shoe is also mocked-up with well-appointed color bocking. Technical features include an abrasion-resistant seam-sealed upper, and Boost cushioning. The collaboration once again highlights KITH and Ronnie Fieg’s ability to elevate collaborations with an unrelenting attention to detail.
